3 September 2026 After one day having the TS590s OFF, it still has kept all settings, but after a few mor days more it has lost the settings and I have to reload the settings from the saved file via the ARCP-590 software.
26 August 2026 Today it did not work, so again: Firmware Reset > Data Reload and running again. This procedure takes about 2 minutes. I switched off everything (including the TRX power), came back after 3 hours and everything worked out normal I do not understand.
24 August 2026 Holding the TS590s powered with 13.8V even when switched off, keeps the radio alive.
22 August 2026 There are still weird things going on. When switching on the TS590s in the morning, TX audio drops to a low level. A firmware reset and data reload brings it back to normal. Annoying, but it works.
=> The USB isolator arrived and is working. Switching everything off, waiting 10 minutes and all on again, it worked. I will see tomorrow morning.
20 August 2026 After two more firmware resets today, everything came back to life. The virtual COM port re-appeared and everything seems to work correctly.
I ordered a USB isolator and a RS232 isolator to make it more safe.

The DB9 (f/f/) gender changer has arrived and the TS590s is controllable again now via RS232. Luckily I had saved all settings which I reloaded into the transceiver. Now back to almost normal.
I must find out, if I can possibly repair the faulty parts by myself.

After moving the USB cable from one PC USB port to another, the USB COM port of the Kenwood TS590s went silent. After checking all possibilities I must realize that the USB/UART bridge chip (IC906: CP2102SX0567 (Kenwood special) / 28-pin SMD QFN? MOS-IC) and/or something around in the transceiver is obviously defective by a possible voltage spike, resulting in that this might lead to an expensive repair. The internal USB hub seems to be OK, as the sound devices of the transceiver are still working; only USB CAT control is OFF now. I cross-checked this with a second computer.
The TS590s does offer a RS232 COM DB9-pin "male plug - why?" as well. Hopefully I can gain control again via this port. The necessary DB9 gender changer is ordered. Keeping fingers crossed ...
BTW: This seems to be a rather common fault with this tranceiver when looking through some forums.
